A Bad Mood - 22 June 2008

I took my car in this morning at 9am today to have it looked at. I went back to check on it at 2pm and it had not been moved or touched. I was like... HEY.. They haven’t fixed it yet. I was mightily pissed. I was all ready to yell that I don’t have all damn day for them to piddle around and not fix my car. I have places to go and people to see (which would have been a lie, but oh well. They don’t have to know that.)
Anyway, The little bald headed, overly hyper, mechanic, dude came up to me all bubbly and smiling. He said, "Well, I looked at your car." Then he sucked his teeth the way people sometimes do when they have to tell you something they think you may not want to hear. I knew this was a bad sign.
He pointed at my sad, beat up old car and he said, "That car there, is tired." "Tired?" I said. "Does it need a nap?" "Naw. Its just so many little things are wrong with it." He shook his head almost in disbelief. "There's nothing BIG wrong with, just all the little things... SO MANY little things. If you wanted that car fixed up right to make it a good, dependable, safe car it would have to be taken somewhere else. We can't do that kind of work here. And the cost to do it would be more than the car is worth." OH JOY!! I thought. This is exactly what I need. So the decision was made. This week end I am going to buy a new car.
I went around to some dealers today. I hate car sales people. They are so damn pushy. I hate hard sells. I only talked to one car sales man today who was like that. And he ended up trying to sell me a car that was not even on the lot. He said, "A buddy of mine has this nice, little, Nissan that I think would be perfect for you. He wants $4000 for it, and its only got 140,000 miles on it." Then he gave me a big cheesy grin. Well, first of all, that is WAY too much for a car that has that many miles on it, and secondly him trying to sell me a car that was not even on the lot sort of creeped me out. So, um, NO. I do not think I will be doing business with him.
I did see a couple of nice cars today. There is this one lot in town, and they had two cars that I liked. One was a 98, black, Mercury Tracer, with 81 thousand miles on it $3300, and the other was a 94, blue/green, Nissan Sentra, with 89 thousand miles for $3000. I think that either one of these cars would be awesome for me. The only thing is that the Mercury is a manual 5 speed, and as I have never learned to drive a stick, this may present a problem. My friend, Bruce, told me a long time ago that if I ever wanted to learn how to drive a stick he would teach me. I think he still would if I asked him. So, I’m not going to let it bother me that I cant drive a stick, and keep my car options open for now.
I also found this car on the internet. It is a Kia Sephia for $3900. It only has 40 thousand miles on it. Its blue. Is cute. I thought about just getting this car, but upon closer examination I discovered that this car is in Jeffersonville Indiana. I do not want to go out of state to buy a car. There are legal issues with taxes and what not that I would rather not deal with.
And oddly enough about Cars, my mother is also having car issues. The same bald headed, over hyper, mechanic told her a few days ago that her rack and pinion is shot in her 99 Ford Taurus. She is also mightily pissed. She looked at a lovely 2003, sand colored, Toyota Corolla today. Johnnie has been pre-approved for a Toyota loan. So she has decided to try to get a new car too. Looks like we may both be getting new cars then. I will keep you updated.
Peace and Love
